Community Development Fund opens

It’s dispensed $1.1 million and helped bring to life projects worth more than $4.1 million.

The Warrnambool City Council Community Development Fund (CDF), now in its 20th year, continues to be a catalyst for many great community projects.

For the first time this year’s program marks the inclusion of the festivals and events funding category.

“As a Council we really enjoy seeing the projects and work that come out of the Community Development Fund,” Mayor Tony Herbert said.

“Clubs, groups and organisations are usually able to match the funding or add enormous value through volunteer efforts and the results are very impressive.

“In recent years we have seen the CDF help a diverse mix of groups such as the Warrnambool St Ayles Skiff Community Rowing Club, Warrnambool & District Historical Society, The F Project, Warrnambool Community Garden and the Dennington Bowls Club.

“Applicants must provide all the required information in their submissions and we’re really excited by the new festival and events funding which is an initiative arising from the Warrnambool Events Strategy.”

Those seeking festival and events support can apply for seed funding, which supports the development of new events that demonstrate a strong community focus; or growth funding, which supports existing events which demonstrate sustainability, have operated for three or more years and provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits to Warrnambool.

“Council acknowledges that events, regardless of scale, play a critical role in community health and wellbeing,” Cr Herbert said.

“They create economic stimulus, they encourage community pride and participation and they generate capacity for our city.”

Event applications can apply for up to $5,000.
