Ainsley Harriott coming to Warrnambool

News Article Date:
Friday, 8 February 2019

UK celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott will spend a weekend in Warrnambool this month to film an episode of his new television show.

My Market Menu will see Harriott take a fun-filled foodie adventure through some of Australia’s most diverse and colourful produce markets.

Warrnambool is one of only six locations in Australia selected as a location for the show.

Harriott will visit The Fresh Market at Lake Pertobe on Sunday February 17. He will meet local stallholders and producers before creating his unique market menu using delicious local produce he sources on the day.

Harriott will also visit Lana’s Garden in Warrnambool and the Yumbah Aquaculture abalone facility at Narrawong to create additional segments for his show.

My Market Menu will debut on SBS later this year and will be broadcast in up to 130 countries worldwide.

Warrnambool Mayor Tony Herbert said that the city was an ideal location for the show.

“Warrnambool is officially Victoria’s most liveable city in Victoria's most productive farming region,” he said.

“Our beaches and whales get a lot of well-deserved attention, but I think that the delicious produce we grow and create locally is just as exciting.

“Ainsley Harriott is one of the world’s most famous chefs. I’m really looking forward to Ainsley finding out for himself what Warrnambool and our region has to offer.

“To be the only Victorian city and one of only six locations in Australia chosen to film this new TV show demonstrates just how exclusive an opportunity this is to promote Warrnambool as a food-lover’s holiday destination to millions of people.”

Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism General Manager Liz Price agreed that the show would provide Warrnambool and the region with great exposure to potential travellers.

“The food and produce offering that underpins a destination is a strong travel motivator, which has been leveraged by both Visit Victoria and Tourism Australia over the past few years,” she said.

“My Market Menu will capture and bring to life some of Warrnambool and the surrounding region’s stories and strengths and grow awareness, desire and intent to visit.

“My Market Menu will use the I Am Warrnambool campaign as a call to action growing exposure for Warrnambool and operators partnering with Warrnambool City Council, the Warrnambool Visitor Information Centre and Great Ocean Road Tourism providing them with the opportunity to convert viewers into visitors.”

The Fresh Market will run from 7.30am until 2.30pm.
